Some good news first. Im making an album. SIt will be at least another 2 months before its finished. Basically all
the guitar, drum and bass tracks are recorded (except for one song
which needs a bass track-this is being outsourced so it will take a
little longer). That leaves the vocals which need to be recorded for 5
more songs. Vocals take ages to get right so I'll give about 3 weeks
for this. Then comes the mixing which takes even longer, 5 of the songs
which are up here are fully mixed etc, that leaves 7. This will again
take 3 weeks to finish.
Having made my own double concept
album-Symphonie Schizophrenique, its my experience that albums can drag
out beyond the expected date to be completed, usually due to unforeseen
events, problems and so on.
So
what about The Phoenix? Well its basically just me now unfortunately,
its been next to nigh perpetually impossible to find musicians-usual
problem-timewasters. What I would give for a decent backing band. Im
doing this current album for The Phoenix to put a cap on the 4 year
history of the band. It will be documentative so to speak.
We started in 04 as Dust. Due to lots of
drama, disappointments, diva tantrums, drugs, sex, drugs, violence,
satan worship and so on we fell apart. Then we (ahem) cleaned up our
act and reformed as The Phoenix- rising from the ashes/dust. After
searching intensively for 6 months (a continuation of our quest for
musicians following the departure of our bassist and drummer in Winter
of 2005) we thought we had a near complete line up.
But guess
what happens? The guitarist decides to leave (out of the blue
completely!) and the whole thing fell apart spectacularly leaving just
the debris of the songs we had written and me, to piece them together
into an album that will be a tell all account (through the wonderful
obfuscating miracle of metaphorical lyric writing!-anyone spot the
irony? :)
I may post up lyrics with the album so you can read
through the viscera of anger, detachment, aspiration, nihilism, self
destruction, inquisitiveness, reflection, ponderous philosophizing and
chemically induced nightmares. If anyone wants me to give a detailed
account of all our experiences as Dust and The Phoenix, let me know.
It'd be a weekly blog and quite depressing and epic with maybe some
embellishments.
