  • Yaaay

Exams are over, woohoo!! I'm so happy today, I'd been feeling really worried about not being prolific enough and stressing myself out so much that I found it really hard to write songs at all, because I was so concerned about them being good enough, and you guys all liking them of course. But then I figured, nobody is making me do this, and the only reason I write and I want to be a musician is because this is who I am; music is everything to me and I love writing. Sorry for the soul searching, but anyway, so now I'm writing again just because I want to, it's really soothing, and when you aren't writing because you feel pressured to it comes out as what you really want to say so it's a lot better and more genuine. Inspired by Taylor Swift I also taught myself to play 'Umbrella' by Rihanna today. Awesome.

Also, I probably shouldn't tell you this because it reveals what a total loser I am, but I've been like, practising in front of my digital camera this morning for making a 'showing everyone around the studio video' (which I have wanted to make for ages! I want you guys to all see where the EP came from!) going, 'Hi I'm Milla and welcome to Big Blue Studios' etc...I am such a dork. But, practice makes perfect so I will be a totally smooth onscreen host when we finally make it. Oh yes.

Aaaand I'm sure you all have facebook, so please add me as a fan on there, I just made a music page for myself yesterday, and if you see it's run by Milla Farthing...dun dun duuuh that is my Dad's surname, Traylen is my Mum's..it's not an alias or anything I promise. Traylen sounds prettier I think! It's really annoying though, it wont allow me to put up any music unless I can upload my passport or driving licence or something to prove I'm me. How can I upload my passport to the internet? HOW?! I don't know if they mean scanning or something...I don't even have a scanner. Sigh. But I put up videos at least, and I can pester everyone about coming to my gigs even more easily than on myspace.

I am going to go and make some lunch out of whatever I have left in the fridge. Thank you all so much for being nice, sending me nice messages and being so supportive, I'm glad it's all finally starting to kick off now, and we'll have the record out by the end of the summer. I love you all lots, and I really mean that. You guys are awesome x x x x
  • It's nearly summer

I got through to the second round and I've been moving around between 1st and 5th place but please please keep voting! The number is GoBusker 11237 to 81118, the votes cost £1 each but you're entered into a £500 prize draw when you vote so it could be so worth it right? Yes. Also, I don't know if I'm supposed to say this yet but this summer I'm doing a mini tour in Holland with a few other singer songwriters, which I'm so so excited about... tours sound like my dream come true; i love travelling and not staying in one place for too long, plus i love playing music to people! I'm also finally going to be playing a bunch of gigs and showcases in Leeds, Brighton and London over the next few months in slightly bigger places than i used to, so i'll keep you posted :)

Finally I have a website now! It's not completely finished yet but if you want to check it out it's www.millatraylen.net, I haven't worked out how to post blogs on it yet so I just write them here and my kind manager puts them up in the blog section...iIm so bad with technology...

I am excited about summer, it was really sunny and warm today and I wandered around London for ages, looked at guitars and bought a diary because I am one of the most disorganised and forgetful people on earth, which is also probably why I waited til April to realise I needed one. Anyway, I'm going to go bask in the evening sun and write some songs, adios!

  • Children in Need & new songs

First things first, I have up some of the exciting tracks from the EP I made this summer. I hope you like them, I loved making them. I ate a lot of hummus whilst making those recordings, and drank a lot of tea so..I hope that comes across. I'm in Leeds now, and I've been doing a lot of stuff with the uni tv station, LS TV, mostly because I get to interview lots of bands I like and the people in it are amazing. Last friday we did a 10 1/2 hour non stop broadcast to raise money for Children in Need, and as well as shaking a bucket for ages I busked outside the union for ages. There's a tiny clip of me playing 'What We Don't Say' by Jessica Harp on the wrap up video they made, which can be seen at www.lstv.co.uk

Today I was filmed playing out the LS TV final Christmas broadcast, which I think will also be up on the website once it's aired on friday. I sang 'River' by Joni Mitchell because it's the only Christmassy song I actually know on the guitar. I have a terrible knowledge of classic songs that everyones seems to know how to play; whenever I do covers it's always things like Patty Griffin or John Prine or Denison Witmer, and I don't know how to play Wonderwall. When I was walking back from the filming this boy struck up a conversation with me about playing guitar as I was crossing the street, because he was a psychology student doing an experiment to see what reaction he got from talking to people he didn't know. According to him they do it all the time in Africa, it's totally normal to just ask somebody you've never met before how their life is going. I have no idea if that's true but it seems like a good way to be.

I feel as if this is just becoming a list of all the places I've played recently..but to continue in this vein anyway, I also played a new song called 'Boy' on the student radio station a few days ago, which will be up as a podcast soon on www.lsrfm.co.uk I don't know when that will be but I'll tell you when I do.
